1. The fact that Romneycare is very similar to Obamacare.

Sorry my fellow Rombots, but we just need to admit it. We can talk all day about how one is a state system and one is a federal system (and there are legitimate arguments to be made there), but structurally the plans are VERY similar. This is not necessarily a problem for me, since there are parts of Obamacare that I like. But the fact that Romney has to go out of his way to deny similarities of his plan to Obama's just because Obama is on the other team, reveals how incurious Americans can be. I would like to hear Romney continue to list the things he likes and doesn't like about his own plan. It shows that Romney has at least the potential of putting his pragmatism ahead of his ideology.

2. The fact that Romneycare has done little to lower health care costs in MA.

I am less sure of this point now since Martha's post today. The general consensus has been that Romneycare increased coverage, but did not lower costs. One of the most pressing needs in the United States right now is rising health care costs. We need ideas from both sides of the aisle. So far Republicans have offered few ideas on how to lower costs (except for Paul Ryan).

3. The fact that Romney doesn't want to make cuts to Medicare, Social Security, and Defense.

Those of you familar with the federal budget understand that these three areas need to be cut if we are going to reduce the national debt. This is a pressing need and Romney has not shown the guts to lead in this area. Incidently, Romney polls very well with senior citizens.

4. The fact that Obama's foreign policy has not been that bad.

Some of you are going to strongly disagree with me. Yes, Obama has apologized for American mistakes. Yes, he has offended some of our traditional allies. Yes, he has been on the wrong side of some issues. Nevertheless, Obama has in many ways been to the right of Bush. He has dropped more bombs on Pakistan than Bush did his entire administration. He renewed the Patriot Act. He called for the assassination of an American accused of terrorism. He increased troops in Afghanistan. Obama is no Jimmy Carter and Romney's No Apology Tour seems to me to be a little overexaggerated.

5. The fact that Romney has not argued for a clear immigration policy.

This is a divisive issue and politicans who want to be president should beware how they wade into the water. But this issue is critical to our current needs, as well as to the future of the Republican party. I thought Romney was too politically driven on immigration last time. I can support him on the assumption that a President Romney would be more like McCain and less like Tancredo.

I can probably think of five reasons why I like Romney for every one reason I don't. But we need to be open and critical of the candidates we like. I am hoping that others will follow my lead here and be willing to mention problems with their favorites.
